Guest-Ready Is Not the Same as Clean: 14 Things Cleaners Miss

July 28, 2026

Your cleaning crew does its job well. But a spotless villa can still generate a bad review. These are the details that decide it.

Cleaners are paid to clean. They are not paid to test the WiFi, count the pool towels, or check whether the AC remote has batteries. That gap between clean and guest-ready is where most one- and two-star reviews are born.

The pre-arrival list that actually protects reviews

  • Every TV powers on and lands on a working input, not a blue screen
  • WiFi connects on a phone and a laptop, and the network name matches the guest book
  • Game consoles are connected, updated, and controllers hold a charge
  • AC, TV, and fan remotes all have fresh batteries
  • Every lightbulb works, including closets, pantry, and exterior fixtures
  • Smart lock codes are rotated and tested on the actual door
  • Pool and spa are heated per the booking, with the correct temperature confirmed
  • Pool deck furniture is arranged, clean, and cushions are dry
  • Smoke detectors are silent, not chirping at 2 a.m.
  • No running toilets or dripping faucets
  • Starter supplies present: paper, soap, dish tabs, trash bags
  • Baby gear and mobility equipment requested at booking are on site
  • Garage, laundry, and utility doors are secured
  • Trash bins are at the correct spot for the collection day

Why an inspection beats a checklist emailed to a vendor

A checklist someone else fills out is a promise. An inspection with photos is evidence. When arrival and departure are both documented, you learn quickly whether an issue was pre-existing, guest-caused, or vendor-caused — and you stop paying for the same problem twice.

This is the whole point of check-in and check-out inspections: someone confirms the villa is genuinely stay-ready before the guest walks in, and documents its condition the moment they walk out.
